How to Bring a Theme Park Into the Workplace

Client: Universal Destinations & Experiences, Facilities Department
Initiative: Universal Environmental Graphics
Services: Environmental graphics, wall murals, wayfinding, conference room and hallway design

The Situation: Universal’s parks are immersive, built to make guests feel something, down to the last detail. But the office buildings where Universal’s own Team Members worked often looked like any other office: sterile, flat, forgettable walls. Universal wanted its people to feel that same energy at their desks, not just guests out in the park. A brand built entirely on immersive experience couldn’t afford workplaces that undercut it.

The Work: Nomad Flamingo started small: a single IT building with narrow hallways and no room for physical art. We designed wall graphics playing off computer circuitry for the building’s two key gathering spots. When Epic Universe broke ground, our relationship scaled way up. We designed conference room and hallway graphics for the three major new administration buildings. The Tech Services and Food Services buildings were themed to the work happening inside them. The main administration building was themed around Epic Universe’s five worlds. It elevated concept art and illustrations pulled straight from the park’s own creative process.

The Shift: A Team Member walking into the Tech Services building now sits in a conference room lined with G-force diagrams and blueprints from the coasters they help run. In another building, Dracula and Frankenstein’s Bride watch over budget meetings from a mural instead of a whiteboard. The energy Universal builds for guests now greets its own people. They stopped hearing about the story and instead started clocking in inside it.
